I have been a kaigu fan ever since my big sister turned me on to "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" in 1964. When she took me to see "Destroy All Monsters" in 1968 I was hooked with no possible cure. Last night I watched what is beyond a doubt the greatest Kaigu movie ever made. Though essencially a retelling of "Destroy All Monsters", Toho studios went all out with this 50th anniversary out of the king of the monsters. The basic premise is the aliens the Xillians (the bad guys from "Destroy All Monsters") are trying to take over the earth by controling the Kaigu, but of course they discount the EDF, Mothra, and of course Godzilla.
Through out the course of the movie a sharp veiwer will recognize things from Toho science fiction films such as "The Mysterians", "Gorath", "Atragon" and "Latitude Zero" as well as the 27 previous Godzilla movies.
It would not be giving anything away to say that the last 45 minutes of this film revolves around Godzilla kicking the ass of everything that comes up against him (including the american 'zilla).
As a side note, while watching this movie my oldest son asked if I was sure that I had had sex in my life.
The movie was filmed in japanese and english so it is best to watch it in the original language track with subtitles.
