HellO!
I have a Mac Mini... which I never used the optional install cd, which has the most updated version of "X11" on it. The photo editing program Gimp needs minimally a certain version X11 to work, which I don't have. So I go to apple's website to download it, it turns out that the X11 already on my computer is *a newer version* than the one to download on apple!
I really would like to be able to use that program, and I'm really unsure as to what to do. I've looked everywhere for that CD, and I really don't know where it is.
Anybody help me?

Which minimal version of X11 would this be? Where are you getting your install instructions from? Which version of Mac OS X are you running?
X11.app has been pretty damn stagnant for a while (although Apple have just seeded a new release to developers..). I suspect the one you've found on apple.com may be the old X11 beta for Mac OS X 10.2.

I have no idea what version of x11 it is :(
The OS is OS X 10.4.5
I go to what I need to go to to open Gimp, and all it says is "Gimp.app requires X11 from the "Optional Installs" package on the OS X install disc."

Just to clarify, did you go and install this, or not?

No. I only attempted to with the version on apple's website, which during trying to install it, it told me that I already have a newer version.

X11 is on the install CDs that came with your Mac. It should easily run GIMP as I have never had an issue with it and I use X11 all the time.
That being said run Software Update as there is a new version of X11 available from there, assuming you've actually installed it.

From the Gimp for mac site (http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/):
Gimp.app provides a self contained application bundle of the GIMP for OS X. Gimp.app requires Apple's X11.app. Gimp.app is packaged by Aaron Voisine.
All you need is whatever came with your mac, and a download of the Gimp.app (http://gimp-app.sourceforge.net/) program. Worked for me.

Thats the problem, I need the first install CD, and don't know where it is.
I'll run Software Update and see what happens.

I think that if you install fink from fink.sourceforge.net using the binary installer, it will install XDarwin for you, which should be a working alternative.

That worked!
Although, now, when Gimp opens, it only stays open for a matter of seconds before it suddenly closes out on its own.
