I'm dying for 10.5 to come out.
Its now officially 'spring 2007' in the US. which means they have only 3 more months for it to be released.

What day do you think it'll come out?

It was supposed to have been released end of 2006. im waiting too, but as 10.4 is so nice already, im not as desperate as PC users are :)

My apple sources tell me 10.5 will be coming before summer of 2007 here US (In June some time)

My source is my instructor at apple headquarters. Although this website seems to think late march. I should be clear that my instructor said that 10.5 would be here "before summer". I added the June sometime as my guess. My instructor was more general meaning "springtime". So april-june is the real range he was suggesting.

Website to look at:

Also upon looking at websites my instructor may not have been going on any super-secret information. He did say they are ramping up for something big "soon" and they had to go get some "training".

Uh Oh, my June prediction looks like it might be true:

That one predates the think secret one
so assuming the think secret one is more recent, it would have the more up to date info.

Ive had 10.5 on my machine for the past 2 months.

My verdict = meh.

Time machine = bollocks, I doubt im gonna configure it for anyone here, Ill tell them if they want shit backed up, save it on your network drive.

Mail = piece of shit, ill never support it

ichat = piece of shit, ill never support it

All the other bits and pieces = bollocks, all cosmetic, ill tell my users not to bother. :o

I happen to like mail.
I don't use ichat but I can see the use in the video conferencing type shared screen options

what about the improved terminal?
Improved windows sharing?
Imroved (thank god) base station setup? and better info on your base station.
improvements to safari?
the global spell checker?

Also, some nice screenies:

So which big cat is the 10.5 released going to be named after?

Is the new version of Mail going to be Exchange-aware? If so, I will happily fuck off every copy of Entourage in the place. With fucking glee....

I'm praying that (a) I'll be able to afford it, and (b) My lowly little 1st gen mini will run it ;-)

It'll only cost about $200 anyway
they usually are the same price every time.

Of course the big news is release is October which I don't mind. It's still a Spring release.

There's a rumoured feature that BootCamp would become like Fast User Switching which if true would see me instantly getting Leopard as soon as it's released.

Spaces and Time Machine aren't really needed by me but the new version of Mail seems to have some really cool features. I use Mail as my only mail client as I don't have any need for anything else. That being said iCal and Mail should be merged, it just makes sense.
