Imagine a 3x3 kid's wading pool. It could be setup in a backyard, or even a street. It doesn't matter. This pool is filled to the brim with excrement. A man standing next to it informs you that there's pieces of gold to be found in the pool, and they're yours if you can find them. You waver a bit, so he flashes you a comforting smile brimming with gold teeth. He has no need for more gold, he tells you, just look at his teeth.
You pay the entrance fee and jump in.
An hour later your arms and legs are covered in shit, you're tired and you're beginning to think that maybe, just maybe the guy was lying. You get out, hose yourself down and walk away.
Twenty minutes pass. You wander back to the pool, curious as to whether anybody else has fallen for the scam. The golden-mouthed man smiles broadly as you near. "My friend", he exclaims, "many people have come past since you gave up. Each one walked away with their own piece of gold. Won't you try again?"
"Sure", you think, "it couldn't hurt." So you dive in again Searching with renewed vigor for the piece of gold that eludes your efforts. Eventually you come to your senses and realise you've spent your afternoon wading through shit. You become disgusted with yourself, exit the pool and punch the man in the stomach with your faeces-encrusted fists.
Borat is the pool.

I feel the same way about this review, you could have at least discussed the basic story line, plot, humour style, controversy surrounding some of the stunts (run of the jews) rather than a pathetic attempt at trying to be clever with your drawn out metaphor.
Its ok not to like a movie, but others will read this and discard your message as you haven't even mentioned the movie.

I'm not sure what you mean. I mention the "plot" and "humour" in my review.
As for the controversy surrounding some scenes, well I'm reviewing the film itself, not the production.

I loved it. I am still in therapy after the wrestling scene but that is a small price to pay.
I loved it.
That is all.

Great movie, made me laugh many times, even if the humor is crude, sometimes its good to be confronted by things you do not like but can have a laugh about.
Unfortunately, the only people who would not enjoy this movie are those whose humor is too sophisticated for their own good.
I like. 8/10.
I have the same feelings of this film as you Blueboy.... It just never did it for me but i guess everyone to there own

Actually I found Blueboy's analogy of Borat to be extremely accurate. Why everyone did backflips over the movie is beyond me.

I quite liked some of it. Especially the bit where he brings the turd in a bag to the dinner table. And where he says to that retired guy: "You are retard?" and "The sheriffs on his way." "Why? Has the retard escaped?"
Where he interviews the rodeo dude and tries to kiss him. "In my country we take people like that out and hang them." "That's what we're trying to get done over here."
There's some classic bit's in it but some of it does seem a bit drawn out. And I must admit, I didn't laugh as much at Borat as I did people's reaction to him but I'm pretty sure that was his intention anyway.
I liked the review and can see why it isn't everyone's cup of tea.
My favourite comedy is Life Of Brian. What's everybody elses?

I really tried to be fair with the review numbers... but unfortunately I just really really didn't like this movie. It was like the worst of SNL sketches... drawn out looooooong beyond funny.

i liked borat, but it really suffered from, rehashing tv segments. TV segment borat i think was actually funnier than the movie ones for the most part. Also i had seen so many of the jokes before hand in the form of clips. It really was a case of having seen way too much of the movie before it was released.
I think it was more for people who had yet to discover borat and casual fans who had only seen bits and pieces of the character before.

I got the movie but failed to get the hype.... And each didn't live up to the other....

I loved the social commentary on the antisemitism, homophobia, xenophobia, and misoginy of the American people. Mmmm big words.

Agreed, the thing I enjoy most about it, is that is exposes a lot of the ignorance and bigotry that goes on here in the US and still the general public here ate it up and pumped rediculous amounts of money into it.
I bought it, it's a good social commentary if you look at it from another perspective, focusing on the people borat interviewed.

It doesn't expose a fucken thing. The only good bits were bits that were edited out of the series and banged together for the movie. Ali G was a good show, but the Borat movie is for the burbs... man.
