http://www.zgeek.com/forum/gallery/files/4/spide3_small.jpgI've just returned from a preview screening of Spider-Man 3. Now, I can't post a full review until the week of release, but I can post a few thoughts.

First up, the action has been ramped up from Spidey 2. I mean, REALLY ramped up. The action/fight scenes and set pieces are mindblowingly good. The CGI is seamless, the camera swoops and soars and follows every move. Next up, the human, emotional story at the heart - Peter struggling with his dark side, Peter and MJ struggling with their relationship, Peter's relationship with Harry - is very well rounded and handled beautifully by all concerned. There's alos some wonderful humour, particularly with JJ Jameson and, of course, Bruce Campbell - and I'm NOT saying where he pops up. Nuff said.

On the downside, the Venom storyline seems to have been crammed into the film - it all seems a bit rushed, and I'm sure the comic fanboys are going to hate it. Also, the film feels like it has one villian too many - we've got Sandman, Venom and Hob Goblin (Harry) - and none really gets the screen time they deserve. It's a long film, at 2-and-a-half hours, and while it's never dull, it feels like it could take a trim.

They are simply my first impressions. I'll write a full review in due course and post it the week of the film's release.

Oh, was that perhaps a coy reference to Stan Lee's cameo as well? :P We all know where Bruce shows up anyway...

actually maybe 'we all' don't... so i'll keep my mouth shut.

I'm fairly certain that there was a news article a while back that said Bruce made a cameo as Mysterio in this movie.

With an explanation for his appearances in the previous movies too, yeah.

Yeah that'd be wrong.

I thought he showed up as Good Ash, Bad Ash and the King of Thieves all at once, then had a 6-way orgy with Gwen Stacy and her good and evil twin sisters.

...

What?

Mysterio is actually played by Mr Not Appearing In This Film

Saw it last night and thought it was great.
Two points though: Gwen Stacey was miscast. It's glaringly obvious that Sam Raimi hates Venom.

It's glaringly obvious that Sam Raimi hates Venom. You're right - he does. Venom is only in the movie cos exec producer Avi Arad demanded it.

Yeah I read the interviews. I just figured he would've at least tried to hide his distaste.

That's completely gay.

Worst of the three movies. I understand that in a comic-based movie the viewer should not demand too much when it comes to character motivation, but the flip-flops in this one were absolutely ridiculous. It felt like the script was written by committee and that shit was added and other shit not excised in various revisions. Pure popcorn fluff, if ever there was one, and yes there were some great action sequences, but cripes, this movie makes any of the X-Men installments look like Fellini.

......And I didn't like the movie.

I enjoyed it, main criticism is, the villians didn't seem to have storys. And so the structure and flow of the film was a bit bumpy. I enjoyed it a lot though.

I thought the film was truly terrible. CGI special effects were too few and far between agonisingly boring melodramatics, with lousy continuity (just how did spiderman's tutor get a sample of the black goo?) My guess is that this offering will be the death knell of the franchise, a wholly unremarkable effort from a director who was clearly relying on the strength of the previous films' box office appeal.

enjoyed the movie a lot. and whilst there was some resolution between characters (eg peter/harry), there was a lot left open ended. i wont say anymore, but i was expecting more.

overall, it was a brilliantly put together film, but more could have been done to expand on the resolution, as this was SUPPOSED to be the last of a trilogy.

(just how did spiderman's tutor get a sample of the black goo?)

did you even pay attention, peter gave it to him... there was a whole scene where peter brings it to his teacher to examine it.

of course that bit wasn't destroyed in the movie....... "cue sinister music"

There's a scene where Peter brings it to him. It ends up jumping off the slide and heading towards Peter before he slams a beaker down on it.
The whole thing of Conners getting interested in Biology is most likely a precursor to The Lizard.

I saw this movie on Friday, and thought it was absolutely terrible. It was basically a melodramatic soap opera. The short bursts of action were few and far between although they were good. The drawn out scenes of emo peter parker were cringe worthy. I liked Venom, although his screen time was abysmally short, they were too busy dealing with the love triangle. The acting was sub par by most parties, although I really enjoyed the editor of the daily bugle.

Basically, it was pure rubbish, simply a BAD MOVIE and I am quite disappointed.

I reckons the Lizard will be the villain in Spider-Man 4. And let's hope they stick TO JUST ONE VILLAIN this time. And I reckons Jake Gyllanhaal will replace Maguire. And Brett Ratner will replace Raimi. Dunno who will replace Dunst as MJ though ...

Well, Sony has confirmed there will be at least 3 more Spidey flicks:

I want two villains - Lizard and Mysterio (with Campbell playing Mysterio) and the precursor to Carnage (or Venom reborn) at the end.
