OK, three to go. chrissy just died. have to say i'm massively dissapointed with the way he went, but hopefully paulie will go down in a blaze of glory instead. this hasn't shaped up into the ny/nj mob war i was hoping for, but there is still time...
I always knew Christopher would die in the final season - everything pointed to it - but what a way to go. Personally, I thought it was brilliant - just so unexpected, it really was quite a shock, coming out of nowhere the way it did. Now, will Tony survive? Probably. And I think we will see the NY/NJ mob war ... which Tony will probably win.
Whatever happens, the final few eps will be fascinating...

yep. i heard david chase reshot the last scene ever in melfi's office, so i assume tony makes it out alive. i also reckon it's almost certain paulie will go, i also reckon patsy, sil and bobby will all go.
certainly was unexpected, wasn't it.

true the way he went was unexpected, and the way tony finished him off.
you should enjoy the new one, things are really building up, coco should have known better to mess with meadow.

watched it last night, i now understand why you asked if aj could do anything right.
goddamn meadow is getting superbly hawt.
the sound of philly yelling 'cocksucker' from his house was hilarious. so was paulie talking about laser beams coming out of junior's eyes
The following was posted on the Guardian's TV blog today ... interesting:
I used to work on this excellent program. Season Two fully and on and off for the other seasons. What was so remarkable about this experience, working with the greatest actors and crew was that not once did we ever spill the beans about what we just shot on film. We, as a whole entitity respected the series so MUCH that we didn't even divulge to our wives or parents or best buddies. It was sacred. You couldn't pry it out of us if you tried.
I didn't work on this last season, regrettably. So, I too am watching as a fan. It's the first time I don't know the outcome and while I have my speculations, I am equally glued to the tv, awaiting the final moment.
I have worked on many films and tv programs in the course of my career and this is by far, my favorite. If you only knew what it was like to be there in the first season when people on the street would say,"The Sopranos? Is it about the three Tenors?" And literally overnight, after the first emmy nods, the people took notice and the production was mobbed by fans. Literally. Overnight. I think that sort of overnight success and respect by fans was what glued the players together. They were more and more famous but always understood why. The quality.

ok, just seen the last one. was okay, but was never going to live up to expectations. for all the whining on the net about the ending, i thought it was pretty clever of chase, but still fucking annoying... he's like that.

yeah it was like donnie brasco's ending...u never saw Lefty get whacked but u KNOW he gets whacked..
I loved it, absolutely loved it. Brilliant way to end things. The way I interpret it - and keep in mind the song that's playing when the screen suddenly goes black - it's the audience thaat gets whacked, not Tony. Think about it ... and watch it again. Everything is building up towards SOMEBODY getting killed, then suddenly the screen just goes black? It's us who are dead ... the Sopranos' lives will go on, but ours (as an audience, getting a glimpse into theirs) is over. We're dead to them.

yeah, i agree it was very clever.
my personal take on it is nothing happens. chase was always massive on the red herrings and unfinished stories (furio, the russian, anyone?), and i think he wanted to play one last joke.
anyhow, the way i look at it, is that tony probably ended up on trial, nothing more.
Agreed. What I meant by us, the audience, being whacked was that our part in the lives of the Sopranos is over. Their lives will go on, but without us. That's it, we don't get to see any more. Yes, I reckon Tony will go to trial too ... and who knows, there's talk that in 2 or 3 years there may even be a movie.

i think i'd even prefer it stay like that. i found the second half of this sixth season to be not quite what i was hoping for, but, in terms of sopranos, i think we should be quite happy with the resolutions that did get shown. chrissy, sil, melfi, junior, bobby and janice; all those storylines got some form of closure. aj went back to being a spoilt little shit, meadow, after all her do-gooding for years, is going to end up representing mobsters, everything came full circle. the soprano family will continue to be the opulent, ignorant people they are, even after all this.
the only thing that shat me is that meadow never got her kit off. damn she got hot.
I think a lot of people missed the point with The Sopranos - they thought it was a show about the Mob. It wasn't. It was a show about a family, about a man and his family. The other Family was just what he did for work. And the closing scene - the real Soprano family getting together for a meal - was the perfect way to end it. And leaving some of the storylines incomplete - well, isn't real life often like that?
I always thought Chase might finish the show by bringing the ducks back to the pool. I'm kinda glad he didn't.
