I'm currently looking for an in-car GPS and need some advice.
A bigish screen and blue-tooth handsfree are a must. Spoken street names would be nice, as would the ability to broadcats to fm. I probably wouldn’t use an mp3 player but if it comes attached then great. Budget is up to about $800.
I’ve got a tomtom 910 in mind at the moment, but the soon to be released 720 looks like a better match for me if I can be bothered waiting for it.
Anyone got any other ideas? I don’t know much about the Garmin or Navman units if anyone else does I would like your input

I've got a TomTom. It is excellent. Stay away from Road Angel, the screen is an unreadable POS.

garmin nuvi 4tw, i have the 310, better than the tom tom as you get camera updates and maps easier. the direction engine is also supposed to be better.

Thanks for the info guys, Ive narrowed down the search to the nuvi 660 or the tomtom 910 either of which I should be able to pick up for <$800 ... the nuvi has a built-in fm transmitter but only 2gb memory, the tomtom has a fm transmitter available (for 110 or so) and 20gb memory.

Tomtom Australia maps are less than 150mb, so if you're not using it as an mp3 player what's the point in the 20gb version?
That said, Tomtom interface ftw.

I believe the 910 (the 20gb version) is the only tomtom with spoken street names...and I may end up using the mp3 player

the 310 doubles as a handsfree bluetooth and has an mp3 player. it also takes cheap sd cards for mp3 and map updates.

yeah, from what I have read the 310 has all the functionality of the 660, just with a smaller screen
/edit Actually it doesnt seem to have the fm transmitter or spoken street names
