And I don't mean I'm gay.

I mean I haven't run since Tuesday I've come to the realisation that I'm just not going to be able to do this.

You see we recently bought a new house which is great, but the place is really old and really needs a lot of cleaning up and work before we move into it with a new baby. I just spent the whole weekend pulling out a huge floor-to-ceiling wardrobe, a few other randomg gates and aviaries (yes - aviaries) and cleaning the place up. Also, we're selling our current place which is fine, except that it has to be spotless at all times for real estate agents to be able to show it off.

I'm just not getting the time to run and every time I do get a good week in, me knees play up. Today, while going up the stairs at the new place, I noticed for the first time that my right knee sounds like a bag of spanners every time it takes my weight up to a new stair. Doesn't hurt, just grinds like it's gradually destroying itself.

I'm going to run the city to surf in a few weeks as it's only 14km and know I could probably handle that at a slower pace, but unless I can find the time to train, I think I'm just plain stupid to try and do 21km.

I know this sounds lame and I really wanted to do this with you guys, but I just think I'm not in the right place for this (and I'm concerned that my knees may never be).

Don't take risks with your knees mate... you only get one set and you've got a fair chunk of mileage to get out of yours yet.

Run the 9k or the 4k with us... or just be there at the finish line or in spirit.

grinding = very very bad

it usually indicates that there has been an erosion in the cartilage. this handy material helps keep the joint properly in line but doesn't regenerate. if left unchecked your cartilage will wear away you'll be dealing with bone to bone wear i.e. permanent injury of the never-run-again type.

you are at see-the-doctor stage and the race is out completely.
