Waterbottle containing isotonic sports drink, diluted to half strength: ✔
Small plastic bag full of jelly babies: ✔
MP3 Player primed with classic 80s hair metal: ✔
Shiny new pair of running shoes: ✔
Glorious winters day: ✔

15km zoom about the hills. Hour and a half all up, bit more for stretching and cool down. New shoes cater for mild overpronation so my knees hardly feel like they've had a workout.

: : pre run report : : had a bit of insomnia today so i decided to get up at just after 3 a.m. and make a morning of it. i think some of it has to do with the dramatic change in my diet - i've really stocked up on stuff and am trying to eat every instant i feel hunger. that's a lot of calories ready to rush into the bloodstream in the wee morning hours.

but the real reason i decided to start the morning was that i need to get in the a.m. long run routine. the marathon start is 7:15 a.m. and, if my experience in january is any indication, at 3 or 4 a.m. wake up call is going to be required. its better to get in the swing of it now than on raceday.

moreover, it's notorious that runners will have an uneasy night of it prior to a big race. most guides i've read indicate this really isn't a race issue if you've gotten enough rest the days BEFORE that. and i found that was the case for me in my first marathon.

That's good... most of my running has been in the morning... it's only weekend stuff that tends to get put off until I've done all my chores.

I didn't even get out on Saturday... Mrs Dwarf wanted me to go shopping with her. The sum total of which ended up being a laundry hamper, toilet-roll holder, cup hooks, two pairs of pants (one for her, one for the daughter), two jumpers (same ratio) and one top (daughter)... more than six frigging hours.

Seriously, if dithering was an olympic sport she'd be too busy stuffing about to qualify.

Napping at my place is a hazardous activity... small children jump on you.

after a run like that... i'd sleep through it.
