It seems a few of us have this kick ass phone. So I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for us to swap tips, hints and software.
My current setup on my phone is.
Googple maps (http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html)
Wwigo (http://www.motvik.com/) - It's a free program that turns the n95 into a wireless bluetooth webcam
Nokia Sports tracker (http://research.nokia.com/research/projects/SportsTracker/) - After seeing what Druid did with this (http://www.zgeek.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68647), I had to have it.
I am still trying to find a decent theme for the phone. Most of the themes I have tried go crap when the screen changes rotation or the icons look pixelated. Anyone recommend any?
Also anyone else seen all these addons (http://www.expansys.com.au/a.aspx?i=144831)? That little screen would be cool. But pointless.

I think the Nokia NSeries 1 theme rocks. All the rest arent so good. I haven't yet found any other good software for this phone yet but its still early...

Mobile GMaps is a FREE application that displays maps from Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Windows Live Local (MSN Virtual Earth), Ask.com, Open Street Map and other sources on Java J2ME-enabled mobile phones, PDAs and other devices. MGMaps can connect to a GPS receiver over bluetooth or use internal GPS features on some phones in order to automatically display the map for your current position. You can pre-download maps and store them on your memory card in order to use them on the go without accessing the internet.

SymTorrent is the first full-featured and complete BitTorrent client for Symbian OS. It supports downloading multiple torrent files at the same time, is capable of both downloading and uploading and can save the status of your unfinished torrents, so you can resume the downloads after restarting the application. You can also check the status of each file inside a torrent along with several other statistics and properties during download.
The only thing I can add at this point is to ensure you turn off power saving if you want stable connections to a wireless access point.

does anyone have problems when trying to log in to a site such as zgeek where a username/passwords required?
i go to the site where the login bit is, put in the usual user/password an most times it just reloads the log in page, no password or username incorrect etc. anyone else having this problem?

Has everyone upgraded to the v12 software?
Did so last night. Haven't really had it installed long enough to see the apparent battery improvements, but the camera seems to take a much sharper image now, and the gallery preview icons generate almost instantly. Woot :)

May get one of these. Anyone tried running it with a dual sim card thingy?
I'm keen on this possibility. Can anyone tell me how its works?

I upgraded. I noticed that my phone crashed a few times after but it seems to be stable now. I've not heard about the dual sim card thing.

Yep, I upgraded and haven't looked back. Battery life was pathetic before the patch but now it's pretty decent. I noticed that if you are a heavy Exchange/ActiveSync user you won't get much more than a day of use out of it. Switching to hourly syncs boosted my battery life to 3 or 4 days (and I'm a heavy user).
The patch also improved the GPS functionality - it finds a satellite much faster now and drops out less often.
My first phone crashed a lot for no obvious reason so I took it back to the store. They swapped it out no questions asked, I re-applied the patch, and all has been great ever since.
My experience with the themes has been pretty consistent with this thread - one or two bearable ones but they all look ridiculous in landscape format.
Not running any third-party apps, but I'll be installing SportsTracker tomorrow morning without hesitation.
As far as phones go, this is as good as it gets right now. The camera is actually useful (5mp goes a long way), the phone functionality is excellent, it syncs with my mailbox, the apps are good, the UI is slick, it's fast and stable, and the music player is pretty good for what it is.
One disturbing thing though... I bought it based on Pirate's experience with it. :omfg:

Yup, bricked it. Took it back to the place of purchase and got it exchanged, only to try the firmware upgrade again and brick the fucking new one as well. Looks like I'll go to the Nokia Service Centre, get it flashed and upgraded by the them.
The best I could research is that its a problem using a USB hub when upgrading the firmware. Be nice if Nokia had a fucking warning about that. :swear:

Well I just took the second paperweight back to the store and exchanged it for a working phone, will definitely leave the firmware upgrade to the Nokia Service Centre on Monday.

Or you could just upgrade it through USB not using a USB hub.. Directly linking it to a port on your computer I mean.

Im no expert in these matters, but i thought I was, by directly attaching the cable to a USB port at the front of my pc and I read in the N95 users forum something about this possibly having an internal hub. I have no idea, and am not 100% sure that this is even the problem, but after bricking 2 phones, I'll leave it to the experts and talk to them Monday.

Used sports tracker for the first time today. Fucking awesome shit. Tracked our day trip to Port Arthur beautifully, gets a bit wonky towards the end of the tip, losing accuracy, I'm assuming the satellite signals are a fair bit weaker way down there.
Wont let me upload the kml or zip :(

Just worked out why the end of the trip lost accuracy. It was from a point where I closed the slider bar on the phone and put it in my pocket. Will keep that in mind for future trips.
Still wont let me upload the kml or zip. :(

How are you trying to do it? I've noticed I can copy files in the phone browser via explorer or like accessing any mass storage device if I've set my phone to connect as such.

I'm thinking about getting one of these phones. The optus plans (my current carrier) for them are shithouse and you end up paying more than retail for the phone. However crazy Johns/Vodaphone seem to have them pretty cheap, so I think I'll bring my number over to them.
I wouldn't mind some user feedback first.
Whats the GPS actually like?
ie: Are people satisfied with its accuracy, speed etc?
How about maps? Can you save maps to the phone for use, or does it have to download them on the fly from somewhere?
Is there an associated cost with using the GPS? It's the sort of thing I could get addicted to. Wouldn't want to shoot myself in the foot and end up with a rediculous bill at the end of the month if I could avoid it.

Its totally useless in the Sydney CBD, but outside this area it is very good.
Maps suck, you can save them doing norti stuff. Or you can use google maps, but that needs a mobile internet connection. Google maps actually works with the n95 gps now.

Anybody looking to buy a second-hand N95? Sad, I know, but I have already replaced mine (http://www.zgeek.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73428). It was good, but it was no iPhone...

tomtom? Does that work with the internal GPS? I thought you could only use it with an external GPS? The maps app and GPS is the most disappointing thing about this phone, otherwise it is awesome.
