Spring has sprung early in the valley it seems. The wattles were in full bloom and the air was heavy with the smell of wildflowers and cut grass. A genuine warmth in the breeze made it an absolutely perfect day for a run.

35k, 3 hours 41 minutes. Three iterations of my usual 5k loop spliced with two laps of my usual 10k run. Felt pretty strong and controlled through the whole lot. Plenty in the tank, even managed to pile on a bit of pace for the last km or so. The result of some smart eating over the previous 24 hours and several sachets of sweet, sweet goo. I was tempted to go the full way, torn between wanting to prove to myself that I could cover the distance and wanting to have my 42k cherry popped in more salubrious circumstances. Happy now that I know I can cover the 35km, the remaining 7km can be run on sheer bloody mindedness if needs be. And coming in under the four hour mark gives me a definite chance of avoiding a ride home on the DNF bus.

3 hours 15 minutes. 32k

oh dear this was an effort. it wasn't a bad run, by any means but man it meant digging deeper than i expected heading out. that's good though, it is what ya gotta do in the race.
