One More Day. The recently finished arc in Amazing Spider-Man (issues #541 - #545) which has monumentally fucked up the last 20 years of history for Peter Parker, Mary Jane Parker/Watson and possibly a good portion of the extended Marvel 616 Universe.
The story begins after Back in Black (another recent spider-man arc intended to put Spider-Man back in the Black costume to coincide with the release of Spider-Man 3 in cinemas) with Aunt May having been shot by a snipers bullet at the end of Civil War. Peter dons his regular red & blue costume again and sets out to find a way to save his beloved aunt. He tries everything he can think of. Seeking help from Dr. Strange, the high evolutionary, Tony Stark, Reed Richards and even Doctor Octopus. A radioactive blood transfusion from his own body also fails.
Eventually Peter is confronted by Mephisto (a similar character to the devil), who claims to have the answer to his problems. What does Mephisto want? Only Peter and MJ's marriage. Mephisto wants to erase all memory of their marriage from the world, but leave only 1 part of Peter's soul which will remember, so Mephisto can listen to that parts pain for eternity. Peter and MJ are given until midnight the next night to decide, and both must agree. Hence the name of the arc.
While the dialogue in the book is good, the art is terribly mediocre and the overall premise and writing in general is horrible. The man to thank for all of this is the current Editor in Chief of Marvel, Joe Quesada. Quesada has 2 reasons for destroying the marriage and rearranging the last 20 years of Peter's life. The first is that he has a hard on for the Spider-Man of his youth and feels that the marriage ages the character too much. The second reason is that the marriage was just a publicity stunt in the first place. Never mind that good writers have put in years of hard work to build on the relationship and make it a meaningful marriage.
If you want to buy a Trade paperback this year, avoid this like the plague and get something decent like Immortal Iron Fist or Booster Gold.
P.S. Joe Q....go climb a wall of cocks!
