Excuse me...can I have the attention of the West, for one second...
Whilst trawling trough the Internets one day I found myself bored and went looking for parody music to cure my blues.
I started with infamous Weird Al Yankovic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic) hoping to find some new stuff I hadn't heard. Nothing beats a boring afternoon like a good giggle at a few songs that intellectually pay homage to a song while at the same time insult it. A fine, fine line of comedy that has left Albert with a cult following and a number of awards and accolades.
Well, I found a song named My Name Is, Ivelnikov attributed to the talented Weird Al. I've since then found out a young American fellow going by the name of Sixfoot6 claims that it is his creation...but, the real matter of the issue is not ownership (which would be nice to know to pay the respects to the correct artist).
The real matter of the issue is the fact that the music in question was created by an artist with a talent for parody. Sharp wit and broad knowledge of Russian history has forged a song crammed with references and giggles built around the now famous song My Name Is, Slim Shady by rapper Eminem.
This brilliantly funny tune will sate the humour bone in every Soviet history geek and anyone else with a good knowledge of Russian (especially Soviet) historical fact, culture and politics. However, those with a detailed knowledge of these matters will be rewarded by this witty parody as many parodies do the intellectual listener.
An all round good song, well constructed and executed with good research and references. It should leave you laughing for a good while to come, something to definitely keep in your music folder.
