Upcoming Games

With E3 nearly upon us I started thinking about the shear number of games that are coming out.

There's really too many for one person to dig up information on, so post here the games that you've been following for ages and think will rock in the future.

Feel free to add details, or just link to info-filled previews etc.

My money is on Fable (formerly known as Project Ego).
An RPG where you follow your character from childhood through to old age. Increased strength actually shows on your character. As does an increase in wrinkles if you stay out in the sun too long.

Haven't really found a good preview yet.

Half-life 2, definately. I'm even more psyched about the modding possibilities for it. Though there better not be a Counter-strike 2. That would be tragic.

Also Gran Turismo 4 if they improve the AI, break the 6 car limit in races, and do something new with the GT mode. It's just not fun anymore. Maybe if you had an actual character and a rival of some sort in the game. Something like Freelancer, but with cars!

I'll be in for that, Shogun is one of my favourite games, I've taken over japan so many times I can do it on the hard levels without a challenge anymore :(

Car damage would be good. A car driving into a wall at 200+km/h does not just stop. Most realistic simulation my ass.

I don't know if the car companies will let them put damage in though. They didn't with the original Need for Speed.

The car manufactures dont want realistic priced parts or realistic damage models.

Then we would know that ramming a wall in a honda would cost shit loads more than ramming it in a toyota..

Would you want realistic damage?

$50,000 on turbos and brakes etc

Written off on the first corner by your flatmate while you have ducked off to the toilet...

And you know that GT wouldn't put their name against it if it wasnt realistic... (AI aside)

I'm well aware of car company's resistance to showing how non-indestructible their products are. Some sort of semi-realistic panel damage or engine trouble would be a push in the right direction though.

I had a lot of problems with GT3 mainly because of that 'realism' tag.
If I can change the oil, then why can't I flush the coolant, re-gap the spark plugs and so on.

I don't know GT's reputation. Endorsements don't really mean a lot to me anyway.

But thats not really something for this thread ;)

I absolutely LOVED homeworld, 3D space. It was a sexy game for it's time. When 2 comes out I might buy both. Er, not that I copied the first one or anything.

We watched some shakycam footage of the HL2 demo from E3 at work yesterday, and it looks very nice. The lighting looks realistic, in the sense that colours are all bleached outside etc... and it works really well. I'm hoping that it's what the actual game looks like, rather than being a shakycam artifact.

Just a quick update:

Got Homeworld 2. Rocks.
Got Jedi Academy demo. Very, very similar to Jedi Knight. I may just buy KOTOR (and an Xbox).
Got Frozen Throne. I'm yet ot play it as I can't beat the last mission in Warcraft 3! :p

SSX 3 looks great. Download the movie from Ausgamers (or possibly Fileplanet).

Curently waiting for Starcraft:Ghost and Mario Kart: Double Dash.

I would think that 1080 Avalanche is gonna be better than SSX3. I mean, you're talking about an EA game being... good? I'm sorry, but that just makes no sense. (Yes, I am taking BF1942 into consideration when saying this)

For me the original 1080 still stands out as the best snowboarding game.

There will be a mod called Jurassic Rage (http://jurassicrage.halflife-mods.com/) for Half-Life 2 and they will make Counter Strike 2 for it. I didn't like the original counter strike but CS2 might be fun with the new engine and all...

I'm starting to think that Doom 3 and UT'04 will be bigger hits with Hardcore FPS players, given the whole Steam fiasco. Unless VALVe fixes the issues with Steam before HL2's release, or ditches it all together, I don't think gamers will approve of their Microsoft-esque anti-piracy efforts.

Halo is unbelievably over-rated. Sure, it's ok as a console shooter, but when you have a PC there's just no point in playing a console FPS. Unless it's Goldeneye, which rocked. The other two games you mentioned I've never really heard about.

What i'd really like to get is a GC, since there are some pretty good games available on it now. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soul Calibur 2, F-Zero GX, Ikaruga and Metroid Prime to name a few.

I've always had a soft spot for Halo.
But after KOTOR came out, it's become the 'console I have to own'. :D

I am also Curious about X2: The threat (http://www.x2thethreat.com) . Freelancer was a great engine and a good idea but just did not have the multiplayer longevity I had hoped (and speculate Chris Roberts had in mind), so I have been looking for one that Will meet my expectation, some thing with the great graphics and detail of Freelancer and the great multiplayer of those classic BBS space games like Trade Wars 2002 ; ).

Being a Big Fan of the old BF1942 I am curious to See how the Battlefield: Vietnam will turn of though I am a bit battlefield'ed out ; ).

Max Payne 2 is another I have my eye one cause the first one was excellent but It probably will be single player only...

Heheh, I sure did read it. :) They were right about quite a few games there, namely Halo and FF7, but the rest was pretty much a blur of stupid.

Don't get me wrong people, I never said that Halo was bad. It's just that it was WAAAY over-rated. I worked at EB for a brief period just after the X-Box got its act together and you won't believe how many customers tried to convince me that Halo was the best FPS ever. It's good for a console shooter. End of freakin' story.

They didn't seem to be pushed very hard until a few months after their initial launches.

Final Fantasy 12 is gonna take a quarter of a year off my life methinks.

But one game i won't be buying is FFX-2, i really dont like how this game is panning out, it seems extremely limited, in the fact that you have the same three characters for the WHOLE game.

Normally that wouldnt be so bad, but if its anything like the length of FFX then its gonna get a tad boring after 100+ hours of the same characters.

There are so many people that think console FPS's are the shiznit. There's this westy at my work that is trying to convince me SOCOM is the best game ever. Obviously he's never had a computer.

I think when halo comes out on PC it can be safely compared to other FPSs. I mean, for someone to say that halo is better than say....Half Life. Bah, I'll have none of it.

Can't wait for the next FF. What the hell happened to number 11!?!?!? I thought they were beta testing it or something. Did they just give up? FFX2 doesnt really appeal as I never used reiko in the game anyway. It wont be so bad if the characters evolve and become more skilled, ie fighter > knight, magician > wizard etc etc. Thats what made the first one so good. Anyone who's played FF1 (FF2 in japan), must remember when your party went to that island and then they came out like masters. Anyway, hard to describe, it was a long time ago.

I like the idea of the premise. Afterall, you can never have too many games with wisecracking. I just wish they'd named it something else. From the sound of a few posts here, I'm not the only person who would like to see a revamp of the original Bard's Tale series.

I'm just wondering, if they revamped the original Bard's Tale, whether they'd go with the old battle system. The one where, when your characters reached a high enough level, and you happened upon a wandering group of bad guys, you'd fight four groups of 99 monsters by setting the game mode to fight on Auto while you'd go and grab something from the fridge and maybe read a comic. Then, when you came back, you had a pile of treasure waiting for you... maybe even a Holy Handgrenade or two. :D

Ahhh... those were the good ol' days... the days when there was no automapping. If you wanted a map, you went and grabbed some 5mm square graph paper and a pencil, and you mapped every inch of every dungeon yourself! You'd draw a 31x31 square and one step at a time, you'd draw in the walls, Antimagic Zones (marked with an "AM")... Anti-light zones (a black filled in square)... teleportation pads (marked with a "T"), stairs (an arrow up for stairs leading up, etc), Magic Mouths (marked with an "MM"), etc. It was REALLY frustrating when you were in an Anti-light Zone and you unknowingly stepped on a teleportation pad and ended up somewhere else in the Anti-light Zone... and you'd screw up the map until you figured out what the hell was going on... :swear: ... Thank god for that spell that gave you your exact co-ordinates in the dungeon when you cast it. :D

Just a warning for those waiting for this title. EB are promoting this title for a 1st September release with homemade dvd slicks. The problem is Sony reps have continuely told them to take the signs down. This would probably mean that they are advertising an incorrect date.

V8 Supercars 2 at this stage is an Xbox Exclusive. Meaning it is on Xbox and PC only.

Guess they finally got Skaife.

This doesn't mean it won't be on PS2 but you will probably have to wait several months for it.

UT2K4 is only game to get me excited in a very long time. Not since Diablo 2 have I been so eager to get my hands on a soon-to-be-released game!
The demo seems to run MUCH better on my machine than the full version of UT2K3 ever did too, which is great for me! :)

ive been playing Ninja Gaiden for about 3 days now , and find the camera not the best , and no quickly changing it (that would have been nice)

Apart from that , good game.

I found Kung Foo Chaos i slightly better game , with better camera (eg , u can see all the bad guys)

Just my 2cents worth.

oh and James bond everything or nothing is also out on xbox now in australia. Good game , being called the goldeneye killer , not that good. Ive found myself playing it a bit. (and the other bond games after goldeneye , all sucked)

Well Goldeneye 2 has finally been officially slated for the Xbox but as usual, not date has been set.

Everything or Nothing is definately the best Bond game since Goldeneye but still doesn't quite have the same feel. The Co-op mode is the winner for me. That's what consoles are all about, get your mates around with a case each and game til you puke.

Just letting you know, we now have a release date for .Hack Volume 2. Its slated for 18 June.

So I know a lot of ppl have been waiting for Starcraft Ghost to hit the shelves. And after the numerous times it has changed date, Vivendi have let it be known why.
Its slated for the NEXT Generation of Consoles (PS3, XB2 and GC2).

When is the next Gen Consoles due? Rumours at this stage are saying the earliest would be Xmas 2005.
Next gen should be interesting. Who is going to be brave enough to bring their console out 1st? I mean if PS3 hit 1st wouldn't XB and GC want to make thiers better and delay their launch to make slight adjustments and vice versa.
Could be very interesting indeed.

Anyone know the offical word on GTA:SA? I've heard mixed rumours for it. My main concern was that it has been suggested that the next GTA would be PS only, which I think is a bit strange.

Still no street date but is had been confirmed that it will be PS2 only....

So for other formats you may have to wait several months 1st.
Oh and when they say "PS2 only" or "Only on Xbox" this does not include PC

Yeah I read what I wrote...lets try that again.

When they say PS2 only etc they mean its only on that console and no other console.
PCs are entirely different entities that have nothing to do with the console wars.

Examples
GTA Vice City PS2 only (12/12/04)
not available on any other console (at the time) but is available on PC(11/07/03)
after an amount of time, usually 6months min, other console are then given the opportunity (when contract run out) to pick up the title for themselves. Hence GTA double Pack XB (27/01/04)

Does that make sense?

Actually I think that Doom3 might be just about ready. I've been seeing the "Doom3" boxes in EB Games. I know they're not terribly reliable, but still they don't USUALLY put that stuff up untill they have a solid date that's relatively soon.

I have the Nintendo rep coming in next week. I can ask him if he has a clue to when this is due for Aussie release.

If you do need to buy overseas, dvdboxoffice.com (http://www.dvdboxoffice.com) is a great place to go. Just be wary of the PAL and NTSC formats. Although GBA, don't quote me on this, are not region specific.

Are you aware this is not a First Person Shooter. In fact it is a Strategy game. Ive seen a lot of movies for this and it makes it out to be a FPS.
