How long do you suppose a letter mailed from Columbus, GA would take to get to Flounder....Auss.? Where the hell are you again Flounder?

The United States Postal Service could not answer the question..."If I mailed a package from here, where would it go? How many post offices and where would it leave the US from?"

They couldn't tell me! can you believe it? No wonder my damn mail gets to me in pieces, inside a plastic bag! Shit! I called the 1-800-275-877 main number and was given a cue card response by a living body! So I called the postmaster general for my area again, to no avail! They didn't know either! WTF!
Nor can you find out that information on their website either!

Well, in any account, we KNOW that it leaves Columbus, to Atlanta from there no one can figure...I think to NY....with maybe 2 inbetween knowing the damn gov't!

We also KNOW that it takes 3 days for a letter to get from me to Atlanta.

We also KNOW that it's been 8 days so far, and no letter!

Any Ideas?

mostl likely, it goes from your local post office to BMC Atlanta and forwarded to either BMC NYC NY or BMC Los Angeles CA where it goes through inspections and then to a general overseas mail drop area upon which its loadd and forwarded to Australia Post at which point, who the fuck knows how they forward it.

Probably airdropped trained kangaroos and kowalas come and deliver it to the individual people wrapped in a banana leaf or something

no, they cant, or more preciely, they wont. Security reasons and such being a primary factor, but also, because the postal service functions something like the interweb in its routing, what they say one day for the packages route may not be the same tomorrow. depends on what else is in with the sorting and what not.

3 days to get to cali or ny, 1-2 for sorting, inspection and loading.

direct flight to aus is about 24-26 hours then from there, god knows what the fuck the aussies will do to your mail from the drop off to the end house.

maybe you should have just sent a telegram?

Parcels (I'm not sure about letters) between New York and Melbourne take 9-14 days. On average, it takes about 10 days.

Also, I've found that the USPS is the way to go in terms of shipping parcels. UPS, FedEx, and the like can go fuck themselves. If you're shipping internationally, you'll be hard-pressed to find an inexpensive rate. In my experience, the USPS is by far the best deal, and with reliable service. As for domestic shipping, definitely go the Postal Service. I'm frequently mailing parcels to Coreageek in Ohio for $5 a pop that get to him within 3 days. I used to work at Staples, which has a UPS drop-off, and the same package via UPS would cost $14 and arrive within 6 days.
