I watch way too much American TV and yet I still don’t know what a Ding Dong or Twinkie is. I saw a Twinkie in Grease so I guess it cake with a bit of cream or jam in it but I am not to sure.
Can some one who lives in a the country of Ding Dongs and Twinkies please explain it to me.
Thanks

A Twinkie is white sponge cake with a cream filling. A Ding Dong is chocolate cake with chocolate icing and the same cream filling,

You can buy Twinkies and Ding Dongs in Australia but they're called something else, due to copyright I guess. I don't know what they're called, it seems to vary between regions. The chocolate ones are tres yummy. You can also get lamington twinkies, in chocolate or raspberry flavour.

yes a twinkie and a ding dong are handsized cakes injected with white creamy filling. the cake and fillings vary in taste. The generic versions are NOT as good as the real thing.
Dolly Madison Bakery versions of Twinkies are Zingers.
Zingers come in different flavors: Rasberry with coconut frosting, Chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, white creamy center, lemon cake, lemon frosting, white creamy center...
I worked for Dolly Madison for a year on their zinger line. I was an "inspector" on the end of the injectors. Mass produced, poored in giant cupcake like iron pans, on a conveyor belt they travel thru the pooring, baking and packaging process. Where I "inspected" was after the baking process, the pan hits a "stop" the zingers fly onto a belt container, I lined the zingers up so that when they hit the injectors they were in the right position. After about 30 minutes I would be covered in sticky half baked cake goo. the guy running the injectors and myself would wipe our hands on our clothes, walls, garbage cans and keep going. YUM.
The cake isn't cooked fully because as it travels down the belt it continues to cook. When it finally gets to the packager it is STILL hot.
Still want one?
If the packager missed any on the belt it hit the floor at the end. These were reconstituted into bear claws. (another pastry)

I am so happy I quit eating preservatives (twinkies, ding dongs ect) when I was about 10. Not that my diet is spectacular I just go for the sweet stuff I bake at home now. Just today I've done brownies and a peach cobbler, I'll do the chocolate chunk cookies later this eve or tomorrow.

I just remembered what the official name of the chocolate covered twinkie is. It was called a "Chocodile". What a topic to be wandering around in your brain for a week or so, I think I need a twinkie.
Many people deep fry twinkies and i've heard it's very good......i'm not sure if I should try one or not. Thinking logically I think any human heart would explode when those things are eaten.....

I haven't had a twinkie or any type of sweet cake like that for about 10 or 15 years or more. Gave them up a long time ago.
I prefer cookies and brownies made at home.

Home made cookies are great....I used to be addicted to twinkies, but I never have them around the house......

Sounds like my sentiments towards deep fried mars bars, yeeeeuuuuuccckkk!!!!!
we have those cake scrolls with jam and cream filling...i'm wondering if those are all the same...i dont understand american taste, i prefer chocolate to lollies and i prefer cheeses like brie and camembert with water crackers, olives and tapas' like dishes to chocolate.
does anyone else feel the same or all you all happy to gorge on cakes?

Ding dongs, Ho Ho's, Zingers, Twinkies all the like are comfort-munchie foods. You eat them with potatoe chips and fat kids.
I'd rather have a piece of homemade bread, yeast roll or cheesecake instead of chocolate or a twinkie!

deep fried twinkies were "the rage" about a year ago but the furor has kind of calmed down now. from a culinary standpoint, it's not that crazy an idea, given the consistency of the cakes. but, if you want to know more, try here (http://www.sptimes.com/2002/06/26/Taste/The_Twinkie_transform.shtml).
