Was wondering about peoples preferences regarding mutliplayer war games, and any suggestions you guys might have.

Old style that I play:

Close Combat 2 ,3 ,4, 5

FPS:

Operation Flashpoint and OF Resistance
Tactical Ops
UT2K3

Havent played CS yet but I have it. Seems very similar to Tac Ops

Any other suggestions for good LAN shoot em ups?

NATURAL SELECTION :D

Aliens VS Marines :D

Pretty 'war' ee :D

That and it's a mixture of FPS and RTS.

'Commander' gives marines orders, they follow them, build structures, etc. 'commander' has top - down RTS view, everyone else has FPS ...

Aliens have a builder alien called a gorge, he builds things.
Great game ... great.

Multiplayer Jedi Knight 2 is great fun. Runs on most machines as well.
Battlefield 1942 is also fun. Doesn't run on a lot of low end video cards/systems though.

For more strategy and some realism try Combat Mission.

Mutiplayer wargames?

BF1942 would be great if I had more than a 56K connection

I only play JK2 on sabre-only. I guess that might count as a wargame if you're only using bayonets.

Never played CS

Keep getting killed by 10-year-olds when I play C&C:*

Played Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory last weekend, seemed good but didn't play long enough to get the whole storyline/campaign thing happening.

C & C Renegades is alright, i play a bit of CS in parra and the city and ive played a bit at home.

Delta Force Black Hawk Down is pretty good multiplayer but only if you've got a fair few people.

JK2 is good on sabres only coz theres no camping or anything if people dont have guns

Melding of two threads

I confess I love mowing down people with my M60 in Tac Ops.

I further confess to practicing one shot one kill with my Parker-Hale too.

Got a copy of wolfenstein enemy territory yesterday ... free game, gotta love that, multiplayer only. Has some good objectives and campaigns that can be played, else a last man standing option.

Havent grabbed too many maps yet, nor played online ..

Ghost recon: advanced warfighter is damn good for an FPS, I love realism in shooters; the only problem with this one is that any medium lag, ie over 100ms and you tend to die because of how easy it is to be killed in the first place. You cant just depend on spray and pray. I have to say that for an RTS, I am still in love with Age of Empires III and Dawn of War online.

I am partial to tactical games such as Close combat as well, although I havent played in quite some time.

FPS on me computer at the moment:
F.E.A.R Combat
Wolvenstein Enemy Territory
Counterstrike/Day of Defeat Source

RTS I am playing atm:
Dawn of War (vanilla + winter assault)
C&C Generals Zero Hour
Company of Heroes (next time I visit a gaming store).

Pretty much at the moment I think I am just biding my time until Team Fortress 2, Dark Messiah, Supreme Commander and C&C 3 are released - its getting to be a hell of a wait though.

Colonel Kurtz

The waiting..... I feel the same about Operation Flashpoint 2

OK, I perused through the website, but i'm a little confused... Is it a stand alone game (ie purchasable) or is it a mod on top of something else?

Im pretty sure that it does not require HL2 to play and it is a seperate purchasable game, it just uses the HL2 engine and the steam platform of delivery. I dont currently have it installed due to a recent format but if you guys start playing I might just download it again.

Colonel Kurtz
29-09-2006, 12:42 PM
so where on gods green earth do you buy it from, Steam?

AntZ
29-09-2006, 12:45 PM
Yah - its $24.95 to buy off of steam, though you CAN get it on cd - from memory I think Thyrd has a copy of it.

OK, got red orchestra, playe dit a bit, Definitely need to be mutiplayer, especially manning those tanks!

I was expecting it to be a bit more like BF1942 etc, but you have to man each postition f you want the tank to yourself.

Will fiddle some more with it tonight.

On a lighter note, I did take out several Russain tanks with Panzerfausts in one round. Not as easy as I thought it would be though

supreme commander: looks really interesting

Necron

Yes, as an old fan of TA way back, Im loving how Supreme commander is shaping up. BTW I still play TA:CC all the time. I love the added units in the addon, overpowered and overpriced but hot damn they look cool.

Has anyone played Metal Fatigue from here? I love that game too. Big anime style mechs duking it out, many different torso, leg, arm options so can totally customise your army.

Got Red Orchestra, now I need some other monkeys to get it too
