I have always had a bit of distaste for American accents, and to me, as I've not spent enough time around either one of them, Canadians sound the same.

They just piss me off. They have such a whiney tone to them, and you can here them from the other side of the bar.

I live in Ontario now and pretty much everyone I work with tells me that I have an accent. I've heard from firends that when you go to Europe/Australia, you should have a canadian flag sewn on to everything because you tend to be treated better if they know you're canadian. Maybe I could get some play simply because I'm Canadian? :)

One possible reason people find accents sexy is that they stimulate parts of the brain that ordinarily don't see much use. No matter where in the world you're from, a foreign accent opens up new neural pathways, which forces your brain to work at a higher capacity. It's the same reason people often get a buzz when doing things like going on road trips, for example. New sights excite the brain in the same way new sounds do. Ever hear a new song on the radio that gives you the goosebups the first time you hear it? Same thing. Then after you listen to it for long enough, the neural pathways become established, and you don't get the same feeling anymore.

P.S. It's definitely Irish accents that do it for me. Ahh, the Emerald Isle, home of my forefathers (and foremothers). :)

Nobody's voice sounds they same when you hear it on tape,'cause when you speak you're not just hearing the sound transmitted through the airwaves to your ear, there's also the vibrations that travel up through the jawbone. Much truth there, Scythe. I used to find my (American) husband's accent very sexy but, now we have been together for nearly 5 years, I don't hear his accent any more - he just sounds like him. Whereas, if I hear a different American voice, I find it quite sexy. Now I know why.

As for Canadian and American accents sounding the same, I used to think so too. However I've recently become good friends with some Canadians and can now quite easily tell an American accent from a Canadian accent.

And I *do* find the Canadian accent *very* sexy. :D

I think accents are great (I've been accussed of having one myself
however, the sound of one's voice itself is what does it for me.
There is just something about (imo) a deep, earthy, smooth voice that send shivers everywhere on me. I've been told many times that I have a beautiful voice (I don't hear what the rest of ya'll hear though). So I've decided finally to do something with the gift of voice I've been given and I'll hopefully be able to get into radio or being a professional reader for audio books.

I like the American and Canadian accents, they are cool and I have a bad habit of picking up certain pronuciations and using them on occasion.
