Since it is the same organisation, maybe you can negotiate them into making it a secondment rather than a contract.

I recently took a 12-18 month secondment to a project that will both enhance my job skills, allow me to return to my previous role if necessary, and also removed me from the couple of rounds of redundancies that took place in our management ranks where I had been placed till just recently. I got to have it in writing too as part of our HR secondment process.

Thats the same in my department. I applied for another position 2 months ago, now they tell me that I have to go through an assessment centre and still haven't even notified me if I am in the running for the position.

I went for a different position, was given the selection criteria 2 weeks ago, given the interview on Friday and was notified 30 mins later that I had the job. I start in 3 weeks...Me, Im happy...
