Chimpanzee meat is for sale in restaurants and market stalls in Britain, it has emerged.

Trading standards officials uncovered the illegal bushmeat from the endangered species whilst testing samples believed to be seized from vendors in the Midlands. The meat, which can cost more than £20 a kilogram, is part of a lucrative black market trade that experts describe as ‘rife’ in Europe.

Some is bushmeat, brought in disguised as other meat products such as beef or lamb. Once in Britain, more than half the illegal meat is distributed through wholesalers or sold at local street markets.

Family betrayal, patience and a glob of spit all led to Ruben Jordan being tried for murder Thursday and his son ready to testify against him. Jordan, 38, is accused of shooting Vernon Davis to death on Oct. 31, 2008, in Over-the-Rhine.

Two weeks before that, Davis and Brian Austin were fooling around with Jordan's 16-year-old son, Kareem "Little Red" Gilbert. The horseplay got out of control and an angry Austin hit Gilbert in the head with a meatball sandwich. Gilbert, now angry himself, then shot and killed Austin as Davis ran off.

Two weeks later, Davis was killed as he knew he would be. After Austin's death, Davis told family members what clothes he wanted to wear for his funeral.

Beginning January 1, 2011, McDonald locations in Hong Kong are to offer on-site wedding ceremonies with menu option meals complete with your choice of a wedding cake, made of apple pie or even burgers.
    ...
A McWedding would cost about HK$ 2000-3000 (€185-278) and include a set menu or the possibility for guests to order during the event, a cake and gifts. Plus, in keeping with tradition French fries will replace the customary cherries "for the newlyweds to eat together and kiss."

One guy I work with is so cheap he'd probably get married here and charge you $5 on entry.

One of the highest-ranked executives at United States retailing giant Costco has accused domestic heavyweights Woolworths and Coles of attempting to slow its expansion in Australia by fighting new developments at every opportunity.

But Costco chief financial officer and executive vice-president Richard Galanti has warned he will up the pressure on the duo, firing back from Costco's Washington State headquarters that Australia could sustain a ''huge'' ramp-up in stores with more than 10 Costco warehouses in a short period of time an achievable goal.

The long and short of this is that Coles and Woolworths and buying properties in shopping complexes even if they are not planning on opening a store there. They then use their voting power and the lawyers to prevent any development which could lead to competition. Not very nice for us consumers. Competition is good.

KFC wants US college co-eds to advertise the company's new bunless chicken sandwich on the backsides of their sweat pants, the company has announced -- an idea branded "obnoxious" by a national women's group.

The fast food company wants the young women to act as human billboards for the Double Down chicken sandwich.

"Forget park benches, sky writing or on-blimp advertising. KFC is taking advertising to a whole new medium: the backsides of college sweat pants," the company announced in a statement.

"In an effort to reach consumers coast-to-coast, and especially our key target of young men, we've established yet another advertising first -- one that’s fitting of the Double Down's head-turning history."

Angus cattle in British Columbia's Okanagan region are being fed red wine with their grain, and chefs say it makes the beef taste unique.

The idea is the brainchild of Janice Ravndahl of Kelowna's Sezmu Meats. Ravndahl said the beef produced in the wine and cattle areas of the region has an enhanced flavour, the marbling is finer and the fat tastes like candy.

"You don't get any better than steak and a wine," she said.

"We just start a bit earlier."

The Czech Republic has considered allowing North Korea to repay debts with tonnes of aphrodisiac ginseng roots, it has been revealed.

North Korea owes $10m (£6.4m) for trams and heavy machinery it received during eastern Europe's Soviet era.

The offer of ginseng, said to combat lethargy, arthritis and impotence, was said to have been for 5% of the debt.

But other reports say the Czech Republic is asking for the debt to be repaid in metal instead.

Twenty tonnes of the root was reportedly on offer as a down payment.

That would have been far in excess of the Czech Republic's annual consumption of ginseng, said to be just under 1.5 tonnes.

Pancreatic tumor cells use fructose to divide and proliferate, U.S. researchers said on Monday in a study that challenges the common wisdom that all sugars are the same.

Tumor cells fed both glucose and fructose used the two sugars in two different ways, the team at the University of California Los Angeles found.

They said their finding, published in the journal Cancer Research, may help explain other studies that have linked fructose intake with pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest cancer types.

Germany's oracle octopus Paul picked Spain to beat the Netherlands in the World Cup final on Sunday in a live television broadcast watched across Europe.

The two-year-old celebrity octopus, who has accurately picked the outcome of all six of Germany's World Cup matches so far, quickly tipped Spain to beat the Netherlands. It took him only three minutes to make up his mind.

"That was fast -- it looks like a clear-cut victory for Spain," said Tanja Munzig, spokeswoman for Sea Life in Oberhausen. She was surprised by his speed in picking Spain. For some matches it took Paul 70 minutes to decide.

The octopus, considered by some to be the most intelligent of all invertebrates, got the choice of picking food from two different transparent containers lowered into his tank -- one with a Dutch flag on it and one with Spain's flag.

The container Paul opens first is regarded as his pick. On Friday he wasted no time in diving for the container on the right side with the Spanish flag on it.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest last month threatened a lawsuit against the fast-food giant to get it to dump the toys that accompany Happy Meals.

Forget it, McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner said, defending Happy Meals in the written response sent to the Washington, D.C.-based group.

"CSPI's twisted characterization of McDonald's as 'the stranger in the playground handing out candy to children' is an insult to every one of our franchisees and employees around the world," Skinner wrote. "When CSPI refers to America's children as 'an unpaid drone army," you similarly denigrate parents and families, because they are fully capable of making their own decisions. You should apologize."

"Parents, in particular, strongly believe they have the right and responsibility to decide what's best for their children, not CSPI," he wrote. "It's really that simple."

McDonalds is essential to the very survival of the Human Race. Without fatties, we'll be wiped out when the next ice age hits.

    26. Mideast lamb chops: Shoulder cuts are the best and the cheapest; just don’t burn them. Marinate them briefly in yogurt, lemon, cardamom and mint. Serve with lemon and parsley.

    31. Steak au poivre: Sirloin strip is ideal. Press lots of cracked black pepper into both sides, sprinkle with salt and grill over fairly high heat, about three to four minutes on each side. Slice quarter-inch thick before serving.

    37. Moist grilled chicken breast? Yes: Pound chicken breast thin, top with chopped tomato, basil and Parmesan; roll and skewer and grill over not-high heat until just done.

    40. Slice pork shoulder thin. Fry lots of sesame seeds, minced garlic, fresh minced chili in sesame oil; off heat, stir in some soy sauce. Grill the pork fast over high heat, smearing with the sesame paste right after flipping. Serve with lettuce leaves and cilantro, basil and/or mint for wrapping.

    41. Bacon-wrapped hot dog. You know you want one.

After 10 years of careful breeding and research, scientists have developed what could be the world's most perfect prawn.

CSIRO scientists and the prawn industry have bred an improved Black Tiger prawn which is producing record yields in aquaculture farms and winning awards.

So good are these prawns that they have won five gold medals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in the past two years, including 'Champion of Show', the highest award possible.

The scientists from CSIRO's Food Futures Flagship have used DNA technology to ensure the breeding program captures the very best Black Tiger prawn stocks that nature can provide and boost the performance of stocks each breeding season.

WELLINGTON (Reuters) – A New Zealand funeral director has stepped in to stop a fake mourner who was attending up to four funerals a week to stock up on food, even filling up tupperware containers to take home, according to media reports.
Harbour City Funeral Home director Danny Langstraat told local newspaper The Dominion Post that the "grim eater" appeared at up to four funerals a week in March and April to enjoy the finger food but clearly did not know the deceased.
The funeral company grew so concerned that it took a photograph of the man, thought to be aged in his 40s, and distributed the picture to its branches.

Many studies have suggested that eating red meat can be harmful to your health — increasing the risk of death from cancer or heart disease — yet new research published this week in the journal Circulation suggests that the negative health effects may be limited to processed meats. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health sifted through more than 1,600 studies, ultimately identifying 20 that investigated the link between meat consumption and disease risk in more than 1.2 million people. They found that, while eating processed meats such as cold cuts, sausage and bacon was associated with a 42% higher risk of heart disease, they didn't identify any increased risk from eating unprocessed beef, pork or lamb.

Study authors say that this is the first major analysis of international data examining the impact of both processed and unprocessed meat consumption — and distinguishing between the impact of the two — on risk for both heart disease and diabetes. According to the analysis, individuals who regularly consumed processed meats had a 19% higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes on average, but again, researchers noted no elevated risk for the condition among those who ate unprocessed red meats.

In other good news, those who eat processed meat are 100% more likely not to give a flying fuck.
