THE descendants of the notorious Victorian bushranger Ned Kelly will bury his remains in private, but they also want his skull back.

The Victorian government has issued a new exhumation licence, which means the developer of the Pentridge Prison site in Melbourne will not be able to use the bushranger’s remains for a museum or memorial.

Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced that a new exhumation licence has been issued to enable the remains of Ned Kelly to be returned to his family’s descendants and laid to rest.

But Kelly’s skull is still missing after being stolen from an Old Melbourne Gaol display case in 1978.
