Shit gets real over at Fairfax
A bad day for Fairfax employees as 1900 people are being fired and they announce a pay wall to their site.
Fairfax Media will cut 1900 staff and erect paywalls around the websites of its two main metropolitan newspapers as it adjusts to shrinking advertising revenue.
Fairfax, publisher of this website, will also shift to compact-sized versions for those two newspapers, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, from March 4, 2013. The size of the broadsheet papers will shrink to the tabloid format used for the sister newspaper, The Australian Financial Review.
It’s sad. This is probably the best quality news publication in Australia. Plus a lot of people are now looking for work in a area that is shrinking rapidly. But more paywalls mean more sites like us will prosper. Well not like us. I am far to fucking lazy.
