Ubuntu 12.10 “Quantal Quetzal” Released
Anyway, as my tradition, I’m here to announce that Ubuntu 12.10 “Quantal Quetzal” (or, “Furkin’ Furkin’”, as I like to call it) is out. You’ll find it in the usual places. I couldn’t be bothered post the mirror links and/or torrents anymore. I’m sure you can do it yourself, darlings.
I’ve really gone “meh” to Ubuntu in the last year(s) or so. I’m running 12.04 and that took a lot of tweaking to get it right. 12.04 was an LTS model that will be supported until 2017, so that fact, along with just being able to install new kernels from here, makes me NOT want to update to 12.10. Also 12.10′s added “Shuttlecock sold yer ass to Amazon” advertising right on your desktop makes it only one step above the adware crap that comes with Dell or HP’s Windows computers. I’d half expect it to have a pop-up saying “UPGRADE YOUR COPY OF NOTONZ ANTIVIREX POWER HOME PROFESSONAL COMPLETE COMPREENSIVE 2013 WITH YOUR SPECIAL SUBSCRIPTION OFFER NOWZ!!!!” (Hint: sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping that bitch. And while you’re at it sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback indicator-applet-appmenu gnome-tweak-tool .) Also, this webpage seems to be very useful.
Anyway, I now would suggest Linux Mint for most people. Or Debian Wheezy if you like living on the edge. Or Slackware if you’re nobody at all.
P.S. The next release of Ubuntu (13.04) will be called “Raring Ringtail”. Holy shit crackers.
